Family History Comes Alive at Our Lady of the Elms
The students of this year’s fifth grade class at Our Lady of the Elms are learning that history can be fun. Each year, Campus Media Specialist Tim DeFrange presents a unit on family history. Working with Mr. DeFrange and language arts teacher Jennifer Smee, the class conducted interviews with family members, collected memorabilia, and created beautiful binders to showcase their work. On Thursday evening, these young researchers presented the finished binders to their families at a tea at the school, and additional copies of some were donated to Special Collections to add to the Our Lady of the Elms Family History Collection that was started in 2009. Congratulations to everyone on this remarkable accomplishment.

This is very lengthy and time-consuming project, and worth every minute of it – when my daughter did it we could see how it not only served as a cross-curricular assignment but also taught the girls the value and interest family history holds for us all. Thanks for featuring The Elms and this project!
