    The Special Collections Division houses the genealogy and local history materials of the Akron-Summit County Public Library. Our goal is to collect, preserve, and provide access to the history of Summit County, and to continue to maintain one of the area’s most extensive genealogy collections.

War of 1812 Bicentennial Commemoration

This year marks the centennial of the War of 1812 in which nearly 350 men from Summit County served.   Many events are planned in Ohio, as well as Summit County to mark this historic conflict.  Locally, the William Wetmore Chapter of the Daughters of 1812 has numerous events and exhibits planned in our community.  Click here to see a list of Summit County 1812 Bicentennial events and a list of local soldiers who served.  For more information about statewide events, visit the Ohio War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission website.
