War of 1812 Commemoration

It was 200 years ago today that the War of 1812 commenced with a declaration of war against Great Britain.  Communities throughout Ohio are commemorating this important date with ceremonies and remembrances.  In Summit County, local officials and veterans gathered this morning for a program at the Summit County Veterans Services Commission on Waterloo Road as Sharon Myers, President of the William Wetmore Chapter Daughters of 1812 presented a 15 star flag to Summit County Executive, Russ Pry.  Also participating were members of local veterans posts and several military reenactors.  Nearly 350 veterans of this war are buried in Summit County.  Today we honor them and all veterans who have served our country.
