Preparing for an Adoption Search
Presented by Adoption Network Cleveland
Are you touched by adoption? Thinking of searching for someone? To assist those who are considering or beginning an adoption search, Special Collections has in the past, hosted representatives from Adoption Network Cleveland to present programs on Preparing for an Adoption Search. These programs address making the decision to search or not to search and help potential searchers prepare for the emotional issues that they may face throughout the search process. It also provides an overview of library sources useful in adoption searches.
Founded in 1988, Adoption Network Cleveland is a nonprofit educational, advocacy, support, and search group for people affected by adoption. It is a volunteer-based organization whose members include adult adoptees, birthparents, adoptive parents, families, and professionals who wish to openly explore adoption-related issues. Among the organization’s services are monthly search workshops and search assistance for its members (membership is $40/individual, and there is a one-time search fee of $25). As they begin their search, local members are required to attend at least two general meetings, which are held five times each month in locations throughout Cuyahoga, Summit, and Lake Counties, including Akron.
